A study published in the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report found that emergency room visits for mental health issues climbed among kids and teens, highlighting that during 2018-2023, the number and proportion of weekly ED visits for eight mental and behavioral health conditions displayed seasonal increases during the fall and spring school semesters. Findings also showed that in children ages 5 to 9 years, the number and proportion of visits increased for five mental and behavioral health conditions.
