Urban gardens in Birmingham, Ala., have different models of operation, but they all contribute toward making fresh, healthy food available to residents experiencing food insecurity. The Jones Valley Teaching Farm, for example, manages gardens at seven city schools, provides access to community gardens, and teaches nutrition classes.
