School hosts career night for students with disabilities

Students with disabilities need support from educators and family members while they are still in high school to keep their postsecondary options open, says guidance counselor Erin Kilpatrick, who arranged a career night at her school to connect students and their families with college representatives. Kirkpatrick cautions against pushing students towards an IEP diploma over a general education diploma and encourages students and families to advocate for themselves with the school to ensure the student’s education path meets the needs of their future plans.
