Okla. board retains local control of Tulsa schools

After the Oklahoma board of education opted to retain local control of Tulsa schools, the district’s school board president called on the state superintendent to moderate his sharp rhetoric that, according to her, puts students and educators in danger. The decision followed the departure of Tulsa Superintendent Deborah Gist and a state board vote to maintain the school system’s accreditation with conditions, including monthly status reports on improvement efforts, highlighting concerns over student reading proficiency and financial policies.
