N.D. lawmakers weigh costs to audit library books for bans


North Dakota’s state lawmakers are considering legislation that mandates audits of books on the shelves of public libraries throughout the state. Some lawmakers have questioned the cost of such a requirement, with the Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library estimating the cost at $334 million take to comply with the proposed law and “read, watch, and review every item in our collection and remove everything that might be construed as “obscene” or “sexually explicit,” ” said the system’s director Christine Kujawa.
