Early childhood screen time may affect sensory processing

A study published in JAMA Pediatrics found that exposure to digital media in the formative years might influence sensory processing challenges in children, including low registration, sensation seeking, sensory sensitivity and sensation avoiding. “This study adds atypical sensory processing to the list of other developmental outcomes, including autism, ADHD, language delay, negative brain findings, and behavioral problems associated with early-life screen exposure,” said researcher Karen Heffler.
