Susanna Reid sends well wishes live on-air to her Good Morning Britain co-star Richard Gaisford after he was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery following a bad infection – MyCyberBase

Susanna Reid sent well wishes to her co-star Richard Gaisford live on-air during Good Morning Britain on Monday.

The show’s chief correspondent, 51, was rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth for emergency surgery on Sunday following a bad infection. 

Richard took to social media from his hospital bed to praise the ‘amazing’ NHS staff for ‘first class’ care.

It has not been revealed the exact cause of Richard’s health scare, but Susanna, 53, confirmed he took a trip to hospital after antibiotics weren’t working for an infection, and was then rushed into surgery.

Susanna said: ‘We just wanted to send our very best wishes to our reported Richard Gaisford who posted this picture.

‘He’s had to be in hospital over the weekend, he had an infection, antibiotics didn’t deal with it so he popped in too see if it was alright and suddenly he was undergoing emergency surgery at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth.

‘He wanted to say a massive thank you to all the incredible NHS staff who looked after him, so a swift recovery.’

Alongside Susanna, her co-host Richard Madeley added :’Yeah, get well soon mate.’ 

MailOnline have contacted ITV for a comment. 

The journalist updated his followers and also expressed his gratitude to the ‘incredible’ hospital staff, gushing it was ‘NHS at its very best’.

He wrote: ‘Not quite the Sunday I’d planned. Many thanks to the incredible team @PHU_NHS for amazing care and a spot of emergency surgery. 

‘NHS at its very best. I realise there are untold pressures at the moment, but the service I received was first class and hugely appreciated. ❤️NHS’

Richard was soon flooded with messages from his friends and followers wishing him a speedy recovery.

Several of his fellow journalists also rallied around him, with ITV News reporter Sally Biddulph writing: ‘Get well soon Richard x’ and Sky News presenter Jonathan Samuels teasing: ‘Oh no! Hope you’re ok. (PS you’re still needed live at 0600)’.

His Good Morning Britain co-star and meteorologist Laura Tobin also commented, penning: ‘Take care x’.

Richard has been reporting big-hitting news stories for nearly 25 years, reporting on stories such as the rescue of the Chilean miners to the Boxing Day Tsunami of 2005.

He was chosen to travel with Prince William and Princess Kate to Canada on their first Royal Tour in 2011 and joined GMB in 2014.

While speaking to hosts Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard in the studio, his update was interrupted by warning sirens.

As he looked over his shoulder, Kate asked: ‘Richard, when we hear those air raid sirens and I know our viewers are worried for you. Are you safe? Should you be running to take shelter? What precautions have you taken?’

Richard was passed a helmet as he replied: ‘Yeah, we have taken a number of precautions but we have got our – in fact, it’s just being passed to me.

He then took to his Twitter to reveal that he and his team had made the ‘very difficult decision’ to leave Kyiv for their safety

‘We have got our personal protective equipment to put on. We also have our vests, should the need arise. It is a tricky time for many, obviously, in the city who don’t have this kind of equipment to hand.’

Richard explained that due to the fact Russian forces were ‘very close’, he and his colleagues had to relocate until they made a decision about what to do next.
