Davis Cup Finals 2023: Great Britain vs Serbia – Results & updates – MyCyberBase

Match two: Djokovic dominates to send Serbia to the semi-finals

Great Britain’s Davis Cup journey has come to an end in a 2-0 defeat after Novak Djokovic defeated British No.1 Cam Norrie, 6-4, 6-4 in an hour and 42 minutes.

A hold to love on his opening service game set the tone for what was a masterclass match from the world No.1, who picked up a record-breaking 7th Nitto ATP Finals title just a few days ago.

Already one break to the good, Djokovic hit with freedom and intensity from the baseline – slamming a forehand winner at 4-2 to bring up the chance to clinch the double break. However, Norrie soaked up the pressure and defended well – saving four break points before claiming the hold with a forehand down the line.

Having sealed the opening set, the 24-time Grand Slam champion came out firing in the second – breaking Norrie to love in his first service game before consolidating to take complete control in the contest.

Despite the Brits’ hopes of reaching the semi-finals slowly fading, a 5,000 strong army of British fans continued to rally behind the world No.18, who fought off five break points in a single game at 3-2 to stay within touching distance of Djokovic.

While Norrie put up a valiant effort, the world No.1 once again proved to be an unstoppable force, as he sealed a vintage display with an ace to knock Great Britain out of the Davis Cup and send Serbia through to the final four.

Match one: Serbia lead 1-0 after Kecmanovic defeats Draper

Miomir Kecmanovic has put Serbia in the lead of the quarter-final clash against Great Britain, with Jack Draper losing out in a tight battle that ended in a 7-6(2), 7-6(6) defeat.

Both players looked to make an impact on serve from the get-go. With the pair exchanging long rallies from the baseline in what was a fiercely competitive opening set, the pressure soon began to mount on the Brit’s serve when he found himself down 15-40 at 4-3. Draper produced a couple of monstrous serves when it mattered to save four break points, including two set points, and push the opener to a tie-break.

However, the British No.4’s level dropped in the tie-break – coughing up two double faults to ultimately see Serbia take the first set.

The second set proved to be a similar story to the first, with the Serbian and the Brit going toe-to-toe to take the upper hand. With another tie-break looming, it looked as though Draper could claw the match back to level terms once he found the mini-break, but Kecmanovic dug deep to turn it around. Draper kissed the line with a volley to save his first match point, but the Serbian made no mistake on his second attempt with an unreturnable serve down the tee.

Next up, British No.1 Cam Norrie will battle world No.1 Novak Djokovic to keep the Brits’ semi-final hopes alive.
