Ore. district updates middle-school math tracks

Middle schools in Portland, Ore., are revamping their math tracks to ensure students taking eighth-grade algebra have the tools to succeed in the course, says district academic director Joanna Tobin. Beginning in the 2024-25 school year, schools will impose limits on students admitted to eighth-grade algebra, and will offer a STEM-based math track for students who do not qualify for it.
