Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Nicolas Jackson, Axel Disasi and Noni Madueke were among those Chelsea players involved at international level on Tuesday, while loanee Hakim Ziyech was on target for Morocco.
In South America, Enzo and Caicedo helped Argentina and Ecuador to 1-0 wins in World Cup qualifying.
Argentina’s was a famous victory. They defeated their great rivals Brazil in the Maracana, inflicting a first ever World Cup qualifying home defeat on the Selecao.
Enzo played 70 minutes in central midfield in a contest marred by crowd trouble beforehand, which led to a half-hour delay to kick-off. Nicolas Otamendi had scored a thumping header shortly prior to Enzo’s withdrawal.
In Quito, Ecuador defeated Chile 1-0 with Caicedo completing the game. The only goal arrived midway through the first half when future Blue Kendry Paez’s shot was parried only as far as Angel Mena, who finished first time.
The result moves Ecuador up to fifth in the South American World Cup qualifying table, above Brazil. Argentina remain top.
Noni Madueke played the full 90 minutes as England Under-21s defeated Northern Ireland 3-0 in a European qualifier at Goodison Park.
The Chelsea wideman was utilised on the right of a front three in the victory, with Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott [brace] and Tyler Morton the men on target for the Young Lions.
Meanwhile, at senior level, Axel Disasi entered the fray with around five minutes remaining in France’s entertaining 2-2 draw with Greece in Athens.
Les Bleus had already qualified for next summer’s Euros in Germany and the point ensures they maintain their top spot in Group B.
Nicolas Jackson also earned an international cap as a substitute, with the Chelsea striker involved in Senegal’s goalless draw with Togo in a World Cup qualifier.
Elsewhere in African World Cup qualifying, Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech – who is on loan at Turkish side Galatasaray – netted the opener in Morocco’s 2-0 win away at Tanzania.
In the younger age groups, Lucas Bergstrom kept a clean sheet in Finland U21’s big victory over Armenia in European qualifying, while in the same qualification bracket Cesare Casadai came off the bench to help Italy claim a dramatic 2-2 draw with the Republic of Ireland. Wilfried Gnonto netted an injury-time penalty to grab a share of the spoils.
Finally, in Marbella, England U19’s were 7-1 winners over Mexico with Chelsea duo Leo Castledine and Ronnie Stutter both joining the action as second-half substitutes. Stutter capped his cameo off with a well taken goal.
